This sign is on display outside the Cheshire Midland pub, opposite Hale station, south of Altricham in Cheshire. The Cheshire Midland became a constituent of the Cheshire Lines Railway.

Having seen some bad days (This pub was one called Cheekies and run as a gay bar) the Railway, on Portwood in Stockport, went from strength to strength under the ownership of micro-brewery owner Dave Porter. It has recently been taken over, so it remains to be seen what the immediate future holds. In the long term, this popular and friendly real ale local is to be demolished for redevelopment. The pub sign is no longer in place, its fate being unknown.

This sign hangs outside a pub situated a few yards from Newton Station on the Manchester to Hadfield route. I have been in there once, some 33 years ago. In those days it served Boddingtons.

Now closed and gutted, this pub is located on the corner of Clarence Street and Whitelands Road in Stalybridge, close to Stalybridge station. The sign is simple, but its origan clear. Nearby is the junction of the lines from Manchester and Guide Bridge to Stalybridge and Hudderfield.
